Fatal Accident in Iztapalapa: Trailer Kills Two Road Workers

A tragic road accident shook the Iztapalapa borough, after a trailer struck two people and several vehicles on the lateral lanes of Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza, in the Ermita Zaragoza colony. The accident left two dead and at least two drivers injured.

According to initial reports, the victims—two men between 30 and 35 years old—were working in the area where road works were being carried out when they were run over by the heavy unit, whose driver did not stop after the impact.

Minutes later, the responsible party was located, arrested, and taken to the Public Prosecutor's Office, where his legal situation will be determined. A wide cordon with caution tape remained in the area, while capital police and experts guarded the scene and proceeded with the removal of the bodies.

The accident also caused the closure of the lateral lanes of Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza, affecting traffic towards the Bicentennial Circuit and República Federal Avenue, while emergency services continued their work. So far, authorities have not reported the exact causes of the accident, although excessive speed or lack of caution in a construction zone are not ruled out as determining factors.

«The force of the impact also reached two private cars: a compact red vehicle with severe damage to the rear and a collapsed roof, and a white sedan with visible damage to the rear», the report states.
